Below are the 128 civics questions and answers for the 2025 civics test. These questions cover key topics about the U.S. government and history.

The civics test is oral. During your naturalization interview, the USCIS officer will ask you up to 20 questions from this list. To pass, you must answer at least 12 questions correctly.

Some answers may change after elections or new appointments. For updates, check uscis.gov/citizenship/testupdates. You must give the name of the official who is serving at the time of your interview.

65/20 Special Consideration

If you are 65 years or older choose the shorter version. According to the original 2025 Civics test PDF provided by USCIS their website (https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship-resource-center/naturalization-test-and-study-resources/2025-civics-test) you may study the shorter version of the test which consists of just 20 questions. In the original PDF file provided by USCIS (https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/questions-and-answers/2025-Civics-Test-128-Questions-and-Answers.pdf) these questions are marked with an asterisk ( ). You may also take the civics test in the language of your choice. The USCIS officer will ask you to answer 10 out of the 20 civics test questions with an asterisk. You must answer at least 6 out of 10 questions (or 60%) correctly to pass the 2025 version of the civics test.
